Regional Planning Council Program Areas
Florida's RPCs bring unparalleled local knowledge and technical expertise to address regional and statewide challenges.

Economic Development
Regional Planning Councils actively support economic development and growth through strategic planning, infrastructure development, collaboration, and community support initiatives. They address diverse challenges from disaster recovery to brownfield redevelopment, ultimately aiming to enhance the economic health and well-being of communities across Florida. Thoughtful planning, engaged leadership, and innovative solutions are the keys to tackling challenges and seizing opportunities for Florida’s growth and prosperity

Transportation Planning
Regional Planning Councils provide planning for Transportation Disadvantaged Programs in half of Florida's counties, staff five of Florida's Metropolitan or Transportation Planning Organizations, and administer rural transit programs.

Emergency Preparedness & Disaster Recovery
Regional Planning Councils work with cities, counties and the state to prepare for emergencies, to implement strategies that will protect lives and property, and to recover from disasters. From innovative projects to reduce the impact of storm surge, to conducting a statewide Evacuation Study, Florida's RPCs help communities prepare for and recover from disasters.

Planning & Visioning
Regional Planning Councils serve as a regional convener, helping to resolve complex, multi-jurisdictional issues while delivering programs and services. This involves bringing local governments, the private sector and state partners together to solve problems at the regional level and help communities grow. For Regional Planning Councils, collaboration is not just a goal, it’s a strategy for regional success.

Other Programs & Services
Regional Planning Councils by definition respond to challenges and opportunities impacting their specific region. In addition to the core program areas shared by all Councils, they also provide a wide variety of services inspired by deep knowledge of their region and close collaboration with the cities, counties and communities they serve. Regional Planning Councils also help communities to identify and apply for funding through state and federal programs
