Emergency Preparedness

Recent examples of RPC Services and Programs

Supporting Hurricane Idalia Recovery
Florida hurricane damage

RPCs help communities recover from disasters. The North Central Florida Regional Planning Council played a key role in supporting recovery efforts after Hurricane Idalia, coordinating with federal, state, and local partners. This involved "listening sessions," site visits, and technical assistance to help communities rebuild "stronger and smarter.

Following the session, NCFRPC and federal and state representatives visited eight of the hardest-hit counties. These one-on-one meetings with local officials helped identify unmet recovery needs and outline long-term resiliency strategies

Medical Response and Surge Exercise

Apalachee RPC Medical Training Exercise

RPCs play a key role in supporting communities during emergencies. The Apalachee Regional Planning Council led the Big Bend Healthcare Coalition’s annual Medical Response and Surge Exercise to strengthen emergency preparedness. This large-scale medical response exercise tests the region’s preparedness for large-scale medical incidents and to help identify areas for improvement, like fentanyl-related protocols. This exercise highlights efforts to enhance preparedness for large-scale medical incidents through coordinated exercises and real-time coordination among agency representatives.
